to Earth Product Statement
Down to Earth is committed to providing vegetarian natural
foods and related products to the people of Hawaii. Our standards
are as follows:
Vegetarian
All the products in our store are 100%
vegetarian, containing no ingredients obtained from slaughtered
animals.
-We do not sell meat, poultry, fish, eggs, or their by-products.
Slaughtered animal by-products include animal rennet contained
in dairy products and dietary supplements contained in gelatin
capsules, etc.
-We do sell animal products, such as milk and honey, which
can be obtained without harming the animal. However, we deplore
the practices of many individual farmers and huge factory
farms which exploit and mistreat the animals, particularly
the cows, which freely provide their milk to mankind.
-We provide only truly cruelty free personal care products,
which contain no slaughtered animal ingredients and have not
been tested on animals.
Our vegetarian beliefs are
based upon the following ethical, environmental and health
reasons:
-Eating animals is unnecessary because nature has provided
ample vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes and dairy products
for human sustenance.
-Eating animals causes extreme pain and suffering to billions
of innocent creatures.
-A meat-based diet is an extremely wasteful use of the earth's
limited resources. It requires many times more resources to
create a pound of animal flesh than a pound of vegetarian
food.
-The meat industry desecrates the environment through topsoil
loss, deforestation, water pollution and contributes to global
warming.
- Meat, fish and eggs are all high in cholesterol. Their wide
scale consumption has contributed to the dramatic increase
in the number of deaths from heart disease, strokes and cancer.
Meat based diets contribute to a host of other health related
problems.
Organic
-We support organic farmers, who work with the natural environment,
using methods that create ecological harmony. We seek out
and offer a wide-selection of organic produce, which is grown
without the use of synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides,
and fertilizers. The national organic standards prohibit the
use of genetic engineering, ionizing radiation, and sewage
sludge. To use the term organic, farmers must be certified
by a State or private agency that has been accredited by the
U.S.
-We work with local and out-of-state vendors to bring you
a wide selection of certified organic fruits and vegetables
in our produce section.
-We offer our customers a broad selection of organic grocery
items and deli foods.
Natural
Our emphasis is on promoting the consumption of a balanced,
natural, vegetarian diet and the living of a healthy lifestyle:
-We feature and prepare a wide variety of natural foods which
are free of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives,
and are minimally processed. We carry a small number of products
which may not strictly meet these standards. Examples are
products traditionally associated with the natural products
industry, or which are a healthier alternative to a mainstream
product.
- We feature many foods, which are free of genetically engineered
(GE) ingredients and are strongly in favor of the U.S.D.A.
implementing more rigorous testing and mandatory labeling
of GE Foods.
- We feature grains and grain products, which are minimally
processed and have not been bleached or bromated.
-We feature a wide range of bulk foods, which allows customers
to buy the amount of their choice, protects the environment
by reducing packaging, and generally lowers cost. -We do not
sell irradiated foods.
-We promote the use of vitamins, herbs, and dietary supplements
to assist you in attaining better health and well-being.
-We feature natural living products, which provide your family
with high quality eco-friendly items for the household. |
