Time for Spring “Cleansing”
by Michael Bond

Spring is here, flowers are blooming, and the weather is warming up. Time to refresh and rejuvenate. It’s the perfect time of year to cleanse and detoxify your body. During the winter months, we are naturally more closed up and the body tends to store energy, rather than release it. But with the onset of spring, it’s time for a fresh start.

All year long, we are exposed to environmental contaminants such as toxins in the air and water pollution, gases from household chemicals in your home, automobile exhaust fumes, and processed foods filled with preservatives and additives. If your body doesn’t properly eliminate these toxins, they may be stored in your body and can have both short-term and long-term consequences, including the potential for causing chronic conditions such as cancer.

Even if your surrounding environment is relatively toxic-free and you make the healthiest dietary choices, your body will appreciate the chance to cleanse and rid itself of any toxins that may have gradually built up.

Depending on your overall health (and will power) there are different ways to cleanse. In most cleanses, it’s recommended that you clean your colon first. There’s a good reason why you should make sure your colon is fully functioning and healthy before you try to detoxify other organs. If your colon isn’t clean and healthy, all the toxins your cleanse dumps into the colon simply get absorbed by the gunk stuck to the walls of your colon and sent back into your system. It defeats the purpose of the cleanse.

Once your colon is clean, you can move on and target your liver and kidneys or you can choose a complete whole-body cleanse. Down to Earth carries herbal supplements and a variety of cleansing kits that support a healthy cleanse, for individual organ systems or the whole body at once. You may even choose to fast with only juices. This is also a great way to cleanse the body and allow it time to heal.

Maybe you’re not so ambitious, and just want to shed some of that excess winter weight. Spring is a time when most people find it easier to lose unwanted pounds. Consider adding more fresh salads and fruit to your diet, and drinking more water. Not only will this also have a cleansing effect, it will give you more energy to enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Hawaii.
