The most important thing you can do for your health, the environment, and the innocent animals is to go veggie.
Shelly Wilkinson earned her BA in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara and studied Pacific Resource Management at UH Manoa at the graduate level. She has been a vegetarian for 26 years and a Hawai’i resident for 20 years. She resides on the Big Island, attempting to live as sustainably as possible, while raising her son, a lifelong vegetarian.
Shelly has worked as an outdoor guide and college instructor in Hawai’i, leading interpretive hikes and backpack trips on Kauai, O’ahu and the Big Island. She has taught environmental education, general education and sports to students from age two to adult, including inner city Los Angeles and her 2 ½ years in the “campo” of Honduras serving in the Peace Corps working in protected area management and agroforestry, helping to establish their national park system.
Shelly is active in issues related to environmental protection, doing her part to respectfully steward Hawaii’s natural beauty and preserve its peaceful lifestyle. She enjoys the outdoors, especially the ocean, has an overgrown flower garden, small organic vegetable garden, and three dwarf bunnies.
