Thanks Caitlin. And in answer to your query, I don't think teaching about energy generation or water delivery is too mundane. Thus I teach things such as that to my home school students.

Those are good questions to ask. We garden, talk about the water cycle and what's required to purify our catchment water so that we can drink it. We discuss the various ways energy is generated on Big Island that powers our light switches. Yet I'm thinking a great way to expand would be to visit the different places, such as the geothermal plant in Puna, the wind farms, the hydroelectric plant.
