Diet:
Maintain ideal bodyweight. There are many painful complications
that are aggravated by excess body weight. Eat a variety of
healthy, whole foods that are low in fat, cholesterol, sodium,
and sugar. Avoid alcohol and purine-rich foods such as organ
meats, sardines, and anchovies, as they can trigger gout attacks
by elevating blood uric acid levels. Be aware of foods that
could cause allergy-related inflammation, including dairy
products, nightshade vegetables, caffeine, sugar, chocolate,
red meats, and additives/preservatives.
