Whether you are striving to become meatless, thriving on a vegetarian
diet already, or if you are simply thinking about adjusting your dietary
habits, it's fun to learn how other people live veggie! Every month, we at
DTE will share with you the secrets and ponderings of real people who
are really vegetarian.

Tony Roberts

Tandis: How long have you lived in Hawaii and how long have you been a vegetarian?

Tony: I’ve lived in Hawaii for about eight years and have been a vegetarian for about 20 years now.

Tandis: What did you have for breakfast today?

Tony: Soy veggie meat with corn and vegetarian chili.

Tandis: What do you do during the day?

Tony: I teach close-up magic to other magicians and lay people. I also do private parities when available.

Tandis: What’s your favorite dinner?

Tony: Stuffed Bellpeppers!! I like it because it’s a complete meal in one. You have your vegetable, the stuffing filled with brown rice, soy protein & seasonings with a topping of cheese for calcium.

Tandis: Do you exercise or do certain activities for fitness?

Tony: Yes I do. I do about 100 situps & pushups a day and go swimming. I also relax at the sauna.

Tandis: Do you eat snacks or deserts?

Tony: Basically fruit. I love grapes and orange juice. I like to also eat blueberry muffins from time to time with some organic non-fat milk.

Tandis: Do you have any helpful tips or suggestions for those how are or want to become vegetarians?

Tony: Start slow. Gradually decrease meat by using soy substitutes. Concentrate more on vegetables, beans and lentils. Each individual is different, but in the long run you will begin to see a difference in the way you think and your all around well being. You look at life and life forms in a whole different light.

Tandis: Thank you so much for the great advice and encouragement.

Tony: You’re welcome. Aloha!!
