Welcome to the Fitness Fusion

I am so happy to be a part of Down to Earth. I have shopped at the stores for years, and have always wanted to be able to contribute in some way. I have been a vegetarian for 15 years and not only has my health improved, but my awareness of how diet affects others has also broadened. I especially LOVE that I can walk into any of their stores and buy anything I need without having to question and scrupulously inspect every label. I whole heartedly trust that what I purchase there is in alignment with their commitment to the community. It is awesome!

In my line of work I have met many people who understand the importance of what we feed our bodies, yet neglect to exercise consistently. Since so many people only think of exercise as way to change the size and shape of their body, people who are naturally thin often do very little exercise – they figure they do not need to. However, there are many benefits to moving your body on a regular basis that have nothing to do with losing inches or gaining muscle mass (at least not directly).

My intention is to pass on ways to make your life more active so you can experience the many benefits of exercise, above and beyond losing weight. This column is not simply about ‘fitness,’ it is about total wellness inside and out. Always feel free to email me with any questions that you may have at info@downtoearth.org
For your edification, here is a list of the many benefits of exercise.

Exercise…

improves the quality of your life
lifts your mood – helps prevent depression
reduces risk of heart disease
reduces risk of adult onset diabetes
helps lower blood pressure
improves circulation
improves breathing
may prevent heart attacks and strokes
improves bone density – helps prevent osteoporosis
helps prevent and treats back pain

Those are only a few of the many rewards for getting off of the couch! Most of all, you are only as young as you feel. If your spine is stiff and your muscles are tight, you may feel like you’re 60 if you’re 25.On the other hand, if your body is flexible and strong, you can feel 25 if you’re 60. So let’s get moving!
