Fresh Baked Bread

This recipe comes from Kathy Hoshijo’s Basic Bread Dough Recipe. This dough is versatile and makes good bread, buns, cinnamon rolls and manapuas.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. dry yeast or 1 envelope Fleischmann’s, Red Star, etc.
  • 1 ¼ C. warm water
  • 1 Tbsp. oil
  • ¼ C. honey
  • 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 3 C. whole wheat flour
  • ½ tsp. baking powder

Instructions

  1. Put yeast in the warm water and let sit for a few minutes until it dissolves.
  2. Add the next three ingredients.
  3. Sift in the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. Turn dough onto floured counter and knead until it forms a soft, firm ball.
  5. Shape dough into desired shape, put on an oiled baking sheet or bread pan and set in oven on warm or pilot light for 10 minutes.
  6. Leaving bread in the oven, turn up heat to 400 degrees and bake for 25-30 minutes. Test to see if it’s done by tapping with fingernail and listening for a hollow sound.

You can't go wrong, works perfectly every time. I have used this in pizza bases as well.
