The real cause of climate change

In the news today is an article about the Obama administration issuing warnings on climate change in what was called the "grimmest, most urgent language on climate change ever to come out of any White House." The scientists softened the message by saying "it's not too late to prevent some of the worst consequences by acting aggressively to reduce emissions of heat trapping gases, principally carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels."

Reducing the use of fossil fuels is a good thing and will help. However, as usual, no one wants to state the real truth, that the best way to reduce global warming is for people to adopt a plant based vegetarian diet. The climate change effects of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels pales in comparison to the heat trapping methane gas coming from the belching and passing of wind, and the breakdown of manure, from the millions and millions of innocent cows and other ruminant creatures that are raised on hellish factory farms for cruel slaughter, all for the sake of gratifying the taste for flesh and blood, and certainly not out of dietary necessity.

That methane gas from cows is the leading heat trapping gas has been corroborated by the United Nations in its ground breaking report on global warming and has been acknowledged by the U.K. government. The focus on carbon dioxide, carbon footprints, miles traveled, etc. etc. is a little misplaced. If you really want to have a low "footprint", if you want to be truly "green", and not just fashionably green or green so you can feel good about yourself, adopt a vegetarian diet. Adopting a vegetarian diet is the single most important step you can take to reduce global warming.

So, if the solution to global warming is so simple, i.e. changing our diet to a plant based diet, and if doing this has numerous additional benefits such as improved health and reduced disease, reducing other environmental damage such as topsoil loss, water pollution, etc. etc. why doesn't the US government come out and actively encourage people to adopt a vegetarian diet? There are no disadvantages. So, how come?

I will leave that question with you for you to ponder.

Love Life and save the planet, go vegetarian!
