Honolulu: Make Your Own Chocolate Bar Class

Photo: Woman making chocolate bars

$30/person. Registration required.

Learn about the origins of chocolate and how it is made bean-to-bar in Hawai‘i by tasting it in 3 forms: the delicious lychee-tasting fruit juice of cacao, a fresh roasted cacao bean, and a flight of 5 of our most popular chocolate flavors. Finally, make your very own chocolate bar using Hawai‘i-grown and -made chocolate, choosing from a delicious selection of fruits, nuts and spices to flavor your bar, from toasted coconut to spicy chipotle pepper or Hawaiian sea salt. You will get to try Oahu’s award-winning chocolate and see how we make it, in this delicious, informative class!

Dr. Nat Bletter has 20 years of experience in botany, documenting and growing exotic fruits and vegetables, gathering food in the wild, herbal and traditional medicine, and exploring Asia, South America, Central America, and Africa. He has a Ph.D. in Ethnobotany from the City University of New York and New York Botanical Garden, where he researched medicinal plants of Peru, Mali, and the Guatemalan Mayans, Thailand, and Laos, and stimulant plants such as cacao, which has spurred him to start a traditional-ingredient, high-antioxidant, artisanal chocolate company, Madre Chocolate.
