Pear Honey Toast

The Basil Cream adds a sophisticated touch to this whimsical dessert, but it must be made at least 5 hours ahead of Pear Honey Toast in order to set. You'll find it's worth it!

Ingredients
- Basil Cream (optional)
Must be made at least 5 hours ahead - ½ cup honey, agave nectar, or maple syrup
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 Tablespoons brown sugar, divided
- 1 medium pear, sliced into thin rounds
- 2 cups pears, cut into small cubes
- 3 thick bread slices
- ¼ cup butter or vegan butter, melted
- 1-2 Tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 cup ice cream or vegan ice cream (optional)
- ¼ cup chopped fresh basil (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Basil Cream, if using
- Preheat oven to 375°.
- Combine sweetener with vanilla and 1 Tablespoon brown sugar.
- Spread mixture over pear rounds and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 10-15 minutes or until slightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool.
- While pears are roasting, cut a square out of the middle of each bread slice, making sure not to cut into the crusts.
- Cut square centers into cubes. Toast crusts and cubes in oven until golden, then let cool.
- Combine bread cubes and pear cubes.
- Begin stacking the toasts by putting a handful of cubed mixture in the middle of one.
- Drizzle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Repeat with second and third toasts, stacking them.
- Top with ice cream, basil cream and basil leaves. Enjoy!
