The most important thing you can do for your health, the environment, and the innocent animals is to go veggie.
The neatest things about our produce are that it is mostly organic, and it is fresh—three to four days from farm to shelf, tops!
That’s because what we can’t get locally, we fly in. Big difference! Sitting in a shipping container for a week or so causes produce to lose much of its firmness and nutritional value. Same with taste and color. Count on us for vegetables and produce that are crisp. Yummy!
What makes our organic produce so great is that it’s so good for you. We seek out and offer a wide selection of organic produce that is grown without using most conventional pesticides, fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge, ionizing radiation, or GMOs. You don’t eat it, so it’s not going into your body. What could be healthier? Just look for the organic label.
When you shop at Down to Earth, you get to choose your favorite fruits and veggies from our vast selection of produce featuring locally grown conventional and organic varieties. Many aren't found in typical supermarkets. In season, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find delicious exotic fruits such as fresh dragon fruit, mangosteens, star apples, lychees, and lilikoi (passion fruit). Fine varieties of Raposa and Hayden mangoes—some of the juiciest and sweetest mangoes available—are customer favorites!
Down to Earth has a 30-year history of supporting local farmers. It’s a commitment that is unflinching and will continue to grow. For example, each year we purchase nearly $2.5 million in products from 400 local vendors including 172 farmers and growers. We strongly support local farmers through our policy of purchasing virtually all the produce they are able to sell us—even if it’s only a crate full.
The reason we do this is simple. Customers prefer local produce because it is fresher and better for the environment. It consumes less energy in transporting products to market. And finally, purchasing from local vendors supports our local communities.
We appreciate the opportunity to help farmers succeed, and our customers do too!
