Instructions for homemade cacao powder
- Open the cacao pod and remove the cacao beans, keeping their white pulp attached
- Ferment the beans for 5-6 days by placing them in a wooden or plastic container, covered by banana leaves to speed up the fermentation process
- Dry the beans outside for another 5-6 days, leaving them in the shade for the first 2 days
- While drying, turn them over frequently, so all sides are exposed to the sun
- Roast your dried beans in the oven on 250° for 25 minutes
- After the beans have roasted, peel the seeds from their shell, and they should look like cacao nibs
- Use a food processor, blender or coffee grinder to grind the cacao nibs into powder form
- Enjoy!
