Stop GMO Event to be Sponsored by Down to Earth

Mark Fergusson, Chief Vegetarian Officer (CEO/CFO)

Honolulu, HI (May 10, 2011) -- A public discussion, "Why Are We Eating GMO Food: Its Health and Environmental Consequences" will be presented by Down to Earth ALL VEGETARIAN Organic & Natural on Wednesday June 8, 2011, at the Moiliili Community Center Room #105, behind Down to Earth at 2525 S. King St., Honolulu.

A panel presentation and Q&A will be held from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, followed by "Call-to-Action" groups 8:00pm to 9:00pm. Attendance is free.

Attendees will be surprised to learn 75% of processed foods consumed in the USA contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms). These include soy, corn, canola (often called vegetable oil), cottonseed oil and sugar from sugar beets. Panelists will discuss how these foods are affecting Hawaii's health, environment, and food sovereignty, and what we need to do about it.

Guest speakers will be Mark Fergusson, Down to Earth Chief Vegetarian Officer (CEO/CFO); Juanita Kawamoto Brown, Environmental Caucus; and Dr. Hector Valenzuela, Vegetable Crops Extension Specialist, UH Manoa.

The event is co-sponsored by the Hawaii Seed organization and Seeds of Truth. For more information contact Erica Burt 351-0855 or Jill Ackerman 392-1903 or visit Hawaii Seed, Seeds of Truth/Facebook, or Down to Earth
