According to the American Heart Association, consuming less meat decreases the risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, and many types of cancer. Meat is often loaded with cholesterol and saturated fat that have major roles in poor heart health. Just remember, when removing meat there are still many foods you can eat to keep protein in your diet--hole grains, nuts, seeds, tofu, tempeh, beans, chickpeas, quinoa, lentils, nutritional yeast, soy, bread, rice, and so much more.
